Save Kumar River from encroachment now
Dear Sir,
The Kumar River, flowing beside West Abdalpur vil-lage under IB Thana in Kushtia, is currently facing a serious threat due to ongoing illegal encroachment. Over time, sections of both riverbanks have been unlawfully occupied by individuals who have con-structed houses, initiated farming activities, and even established brick kilns. These unplanned and illegal developments are gradually narrowing the river and disrupting its natural flow.
As the river continues to lose its capacity, the sur-rounding environment is being adversely affected. Waterlogging during the rainy season and reduced water availability in the dry season have become increasingly common. Local residents, farmers, and the overall ecosystem are already experiencing the harmful consequences of this situation.
In light of these concerns, I respectfully urge the concerned authorities to take immediate and effec-tive action. Necessary steps should be taken to remove illegal structures, restore the river’s natural course, and prevent further encroachment. Protecting the Kumar River is essential for ensuring environmental balance and securing a sustainable future for the local community.
